Ari / Saphan Khwai / Suthisarn
A condo near Ari is like having a condo in the "Thonglor" of Phahonyothin in a trendy and very convenient location.
Ari was once popular for its many restaurants and sometimes called "the kitchen of Bangkok". Things have slightly changed as time passed and the shopping village La Villa was built. This is now a very trendy residential areas with still some great local restaurants remaining there.
From Ari you can access three main roads and one express way quickly making it a very easy to live place but of course like everywhere in Bangkok you can still expect some traffic. If you are not driving that is no problem anyway as Tuk Tuk and motorcycle are circulating around the area to pick residents on the move. Of course the Ari BTS station is one more reason to consider moving to a condo near Ari.
Ari has increased its value in the recent years and it certainly won't stop anytime soon. There are mostly residents living on a comfortable income in the area and also a large middle class.
In the evening people gather at La Villa for some dining or drinking but also in a few other places like Aree Garden where you could meet some popular thai stars (actors, singers, business people...) living in the neighborhood.
Northern part around Pradipath Road or Suthisarn is more on middle class with some nice condos around Saphan Khwai BTS station, and hidden in many sois from both side of Phahonyothin road with a higher concentration on the sois connected to Suthisarn. There are many very nice low rise and quiet condos to be discovered there!
With your condo in Ari it becomes easy to avoid some traffic as you start to know more about the area: there are three potential exits with Phahonyothin road of course, Rama 6 and Pradipath (that connect to Suthisarn road as well). Suthisarn road can bring you quickly to Viphavadee Rangsit road (and express way), Ratchadaphisek or even Ladprao. Another express way is accessed from Rama 6 road near the connection with Ari.
Ari BTS station can bring you to the north up to Jatujak connected with MRT from there, or south to Siam or continuing to Sukhumvit. Of course change is available at Siam to reach Silom / Sathorn areas.
The small shopping village La Villa will certainly fulfill most of your needs as it contains several restaurants and a supermarket Villa Market with imported food. The place is located next to the BTS station so you will just walk down the stairs and you are there!
If you are looking for bigger place, with more food or items, you can check out the Big C hypermarket located next to Saphan Khwai BTS station. By car you can also access it by Suthisarn Soi 1 so you won't have to U-Turn on Phahonyothin road. This Big C has a floor dedicated to the food, another for restaurants and food court and finally underground a few utility shops and banks.
Next to Saphan Khwai BTS station you can access Paolo Memorial Hospital. This private hospital has several branches in Bangkok and is very conveniently located to assist you if you live in the area or access it by BTS.
Another choice would be Phyathai 2 Hospital next to Sanama Pao BTS Station. It provides some international services and some translation as well. It also benefit from a great reputation for doctors and healthcare services provided there.
On Rama 6 road you can try Vichayut Hospital which is also a great choice with excellent services or the public hospital Ramathibodi part of the Mahidol University campus.
HOBS in Aree Garden or HOBS Away in La Villa are nice places to enjoy some large variety of beers imported from Belgium and food. You can also try the Basilico Pizzeria in Ari as well or Somtum Bangkok, or Baan Mae Yui for food or reach Pradipath Road and try Shimi Shabu restaurant on soi 19.
Salt on Ari is another nice place to spend the evening where you can enjoy traditional thai food, some western meals as well and a large wine selection while art videos are projected on walls around you.
If you are for movies or big department store shopping, you will have to take the BTS to reach Siam where you can access all of that, or Central Plaza Ladprao in the northern part that can be reached by MRT (or a taxi for a short ride).
For parks, Jatujak is a great destination with its set of parks (Chatuchak, Queen Sirikit and Rotfai parks).
