One of the main road crossing Sukhumvit, great choice for a living with one BTS and two MRT accesses!
Asoke is mostly a business street with many offices located along the road. However it is also connected to some other sois, features a large university campus (Srinakarinwirot University) and of course condominiums projects. Some condos are old but well maintained, there is however a new boom in this area as new projects are rising there. From asoke, crossing sukhumvit road, you will find a very nice park (Benjakiti) that was completed a few years ago featuring a jogging track and a large lake in the middle. This is a very nice place for relaxation, and of course you can enjoy the exhibition at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center that run all year long.
Asoke is mostly populated by office workers due to its convenient location. There are mainly westerners and japanese people living there and of course thai nationals.
The street is busting with activities during working days with office workers and students going to the nearby university but becomes also very quiet on week-ends as offices are closed. It was even very hard to find convenience stores before but the situation is now largely improving as a new shopping center opened (Terminal 21) and new condos are being built in the area.
Asoke can be subject to a lot of traffic jam during working days as people commute, but you can also avoid it by using sois parallel to the street (some shortcuts exist through some office buildings as well). The road is also "walkable" and this is possible to go from one end to the other just by walking.
There are also 2 MRT stations located on the intersection with Petchaburi road and Sukhumvit road and of course a BTS station as well on Sukhumvit road. More recently the new airport express terminal opened nearby, next to Petchaburi road (Makasan) so you can really join every location in Bangkok from Asoke!
This was previously one of the lack of the area as no major shopping center was available and only small convenience store like 7 eleven and family mart were to be found. However the newly built Terminal 21 completely changed that as you will find clothes, food and cinema in there.
You will of course still find many 7 eleven and family mart all along the street and even a small food shopping center located on the underground floor of Grand Park View Asoke condominium (in the center of Asoke street).
On asoke street there is a specialized hospital about eye vision (Rutnin Eye Hospital). However for more common sickness or medical care you will be able to Rama 9 hospital, Bumrungrad Hospital, Bangkok Hospital or Samitivej Hospital. Rama 9 is the nearest one that you will find, near Rama 9 road but Bumrungrad is also very near and you can easily join the other ones as well.
You will find some nice restaurants hidden in the sois behind Asoke and of course in Terminal 21. There are also some very popular bars like Long Table located in a building opposite of Benjakiti park and from which you can get an awesome view on Bangkok at night. Another recommended restaurant would be Baan Khanitha on soi 23.
Note that at the entrance of Asoke road, coming from sukhumvit, you will find soi cowboy which is very well known for its nightlife with many bars and massages (with prostitution). There are a few condominiums located very near but not too affected by noise and loud music as there are many buildings in the area.
