The northern area of Bangkok consolidates a large part of Bangkok residents.
Ratchadaphisek is as Phahonyothin a major road to link the residential areas of the north to the city center. Ladprao is always one of the preferred road by workers through a dense sois system and many condominiums for every budget available and a few department stores all along the road. Bangsue, west of the northern area of Phahonyothin road, is also becoming more and more popular for commuters as the transit system is soon reaching the area as well as Chaeng Watthana.
All those areas are mostly focused on living with some offices and department stores. Many residents enjoy cheaper prices than the actual center of Bangkok while commuting is still easy through the MRT system.
Bangkok residents like the northern areas as they are mostly synonyms of cheaper price than the center of Bangkok, and this for all categories of condominiums including in the higher range. As usual a mix of condos is to be found with high-rise mostly located directly on main roads while low rise will be hidden inside the sois for a more private setup.
Some areas are also flourishing with new condos, in particular Ratchadaphisek near the Central Plaza Rama 9 recently opened, or Bangsue and later Chaeng Watthana welcoming new extensions of the MRT lines.
Most roads can experience heavy traffic during peak time. Ladprao and Ratchadaphisek are among the roads you may want to avoid the most as well as Chaeng Watthana: all those roads are not able to handle all the traffic to Bangkok so you will surely prefer to use the shortcuts through sois, express ways or public transportation.
The MRT follows the same path as Ratchadaphisek road for a long distance and turns into Ladprao to join Central Plaza and then turn back to Jatujak before joining Bangsue. Extensions are scheduled to provide more stations in Bangsue and also Chaeng Watthana.
Ratchadaphisek has several department stores on its path that are Central Plaza Rama 9, Fortune Tower, Esplanade and also Major Avenue Ratchayothin. Ladprao also provides several places for shopping with Central Plaza Ladprao, two Big C and The Mall Bangkapi. For Bangsue there is less choice with a Big C and Tesco Lotus but the transportation can bring you to Central Plaza Ladprao quickly or you can reach Nonthaburi province and Central Plaza Rattanathibet.
Chaeng Watthana is partly inside Bangkok and Nonthaburi province, on the east side it becomes Ramintra road which also hosts several condos. Many department stores are on its path with Central Plaza Ramindra, The Avenue Chaengwattana, Central Plaza Chaengwattana and several Big C or other hypermarkets.
Several hospitals are on the road of Ladprao with Paolo Memorial Hospital on Chokchai 4, Ladprao General Hospital or Vejthani Hospital.
Kasemrad Hospital Prachachuen is a good choice for Bangsue as well as Yahnee hospital or Vichayut, Paolo Memorial Hospital while two choices are available for Chaeng Watthana that are Mongkutwatthana General Hospital on the road itself or Bhumibop Adulyadej Hospital on Phahonyothin road near Don Muang airport.
Many great local restaurants are to be found everywhere on those areas, with also a few international and branches of big restaurants in all department stores or hypermarkets. You can also surely enjoy some nice shopping at those department store, the Central Plaza and The Mall branches provides a large choice of shops for you to spend your week-end shopping.
There are also many bars and dancing places where you can spend your nights partying or drinking among colleagues or friends.
There is also some cultural places like the cultural center on Ratchadaphisek where some events are regularly organized for you to enjoy some classical music or book fair.
