Popular because of the Ramkhamhaeng university campus, ABAC and some other popular universities, this street gets all convenience one could be looking for.
Ramkhamhaeng is not directly connected on Sukhumvit road but can easily be accessed from Thonglor, Ekamai, On Nut and Srinagarindra roads. This is a popular place among students because of the universities there (Ramkhamhaeng University, Assumption University - ABAC, Rajapark College, NIDA...).
Shopping malls, hospitals and now airport transit really help in boosting this area that is now finally easily connected to the remaining parts of the city.
A lot of students are living in this area nearby the Ramkhamhaeng University campus, but there are also plenty of office workers and a few foreigners that are also enjoying Ramkhamhaeng and all its facilities.
This is a very easy place to live in but you have to be able to handle the traffic that can be quite heavy as well.
Ramkhamhaeng also experiences a lot of traffic jams but an elevated road also helps to reduce congestion and overall the situation is not as bad as the sukhumvit road.
There is no BTS or MRT (at least not yet) crossing Ramkhamhaeng road but an Airport Express station. You can then easily reach other areas of Bangkok by transiting on Makasan terminal (MRT) or Phayathai (BTS).
Shopping area area will be mostly near the Ramkhamhaeng University campus (The Mall Ramkhamhaeng) where you will find food, clothes, restaurants, bowling, theater... There is also a Big C and even a Foodland with good quality products and imported foods.
Going further on Ramkhamhaeng you can join The Mall Bangkapi, Makro and Tesco Lotus on Ladprao road. If you plan to stay deep east on Ramkhamhaeng road you will still find two Big C department store.
Near the Ramkhamhaeng station are Dr Panya General Hospital, Petcharev Hospital and Klong Tan hospital.
At mid distance between the Airport Express station and The Mall Bangkapi you can go to Ramkhamhaeng Hospital (directly accessed from the road), Vejthani Hospital (on Ladprao road) or Samitivej Hospital (Srinakarin branch) behind the campus, near Srinagarindra road. This may be your choice if you are looking for the quality of services of Samitivej Hospital.
If you decide to buy or rent a condo in Ramkhamhaeng I would recommend you to try the different services as there is really a lot of choice available there!
A lot of thai restaurants are to be found and a few international cuisine as well with even some outdoor dining. You may have to investigate your area as the street is quite long to check for nearby restaurants.
There are not many bars for foreigners but you can find one or two surely like Jungle Jim's International Restaurant & Sports Bar targeted at foreigners as well but if you are interested by the nightlife you will need to join Thonglor or other places.
